A delay in Munich led to a missed flight and over 3 hours late arrival
The situation
Kiril Ivanov was traveling for business from Sofia to Lisbon with a layover in Munich. His first flight landed late, leaving insufficient time for the connection. As a result, he missed the next flight and arrived in Lisbon more than 3 hours late.
The problem
After submitting a claim on his own, he received a refusal for flight delay compensation, with the airline stating that the delay was caused by circumstances beyond their control.
What we did
The case was taken over by attorney Stoyan Petkov from the Claimster legal team. After reviewing the flight data and the circumstances of the delay, he determined that the reason did not qualify as “extraordinary circumstances.”
This meant the case was fully eligible for compensation for a delayed flight under Regulation (EC) No 261/2004. We prepared and submitted a formal claim and handled all communication with the airline.
The result
– Compensation paid: €600
– No legal proceedings required
– Timeline: 18 days from claim submission
Takeaway
An initial refusal does not mean you are not entitled to flight delay compensation. In many cases, it is a standard response from airlines.
